Embellished Events Christmas

Follow Me on Pinterest

I found a delightful Challenge over at CAS(E) this Sketch and knew I just had to try it! I am in love with their CAS style (Clean and Simple)...the best part is that this card came to gether in about 15 minutes!

Choosing the sentiment to go along with "Ho Ho Ho" was pretty easy, I mean really, what else does Santa say after "Ho Ho Ho" but "Merry Christmas"? The funny part was I ended up singing "Ho Ho Ho, Green Giant" all day long, lol!

EZ Design Ideas:

  • I chose a simple image and repeated it for impact
  • A fun and clean pattern paper accents, but does not detract from, the focal point
  • Rounded corners add a bit more visual interest

  •  Using the Stamp-a-ma-jig easily ensures that images end up just where you want them to be
  • The sentiment in the upper left hand corner balances out the image on the bottom right corner

Evergreen Christmas - FMS #62

Follow Me on Pinterest

Today's card was inspired by a wonderful layout I found over at Freshly Made Sketches. This group comes up with crisp and clean layouts every week!

 EZ Design Ideas:

  • I knew I wanted the tree to be green and that I wanted to use Stampin' Up!'s tulle ribbon, from there I quickly chose coordinating/complimentary papers from the 'Candlelight Christmas' Designer Series Paper. Coordinating products make the choices so simple!
  • I trimmed Stampin' Up's Labels Collection Framelits down to better suit my stamp set
  • The Lacy Brocade embossing folder adds a bit of suble texture to the background
  • A star stamped in Summer Starfruit, fussy cut, and popped up with a Dimensional gives added depth

  • The tree is highlighted with Dazzling Details for a bit of sparkle
  • Stampin' Up!'s  3 1/2" Tulle Ribbon has been trimmed in half vertically to keep the bow delicate

Stampin Supplies:

Stamps: Evergreen (127973), Teeny Tiny Wishes (127802)

Paper: Early Expresso (119686), Very Vanilla (101650) Cardstock; Candlelight Christmas (126905) Designer Series Paper

Silly Mummy Treat Box

Follow Me on Pinterest

As promised, here is the companion project for my 'Silly Mummy' card because life is scary without chocolate! Wouldn't this make a great classroom treat bag? Or a Halloween party treat bag? It is so versatile and can easily be adapted to any occasion! My treat box is in fact adapted from a version that was introduced to Stampin' Up! demonstrators at a recent regional event.

To create the box, use 2-7/8" x 6-3/4" cardstock; score horizontally at 2" and 4-3/4"; score vertically at 1/2" and 2-3/8". Crease the score lines using the Bone Folder. Where the score lines meet, create a "V"-shaped notch to facilitate folding and assembly. Die cut two tags in matching cardstock using the Two Tags Bigz Die and adhere them around the assembled box and decorate as desired! I stamped the sentiment and hand cut a banner and then adhered the banner to a toothpick. EZ Peasy!

Be warned though, choose another treat to put in your treat box. Mine is filled with white chocolate candy corn M&M's. They were chosen for their bright colors and I thought that they did not sound appetizing at all...sadly I was proven wrong. They are rediculously yummy and I would not reccomend bringing them into your home!!!

Stampin Supplies:

Silly Mummy!

Follow Me on Pinterest

This little guy thinks he's scary...shhh, don't tell him he's just too cute!

I'm not really a 'cutsie' kinda girl but I fell in love with this stamp set the moment I saw it and when I saw the colors for this week's Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge, I knew it was time to break this set out! To keep life interesting, I decided to stretch myself a bit and combine this challenge with the sketch over at Mojo Monday.

I must admit that with so many layers, this sketch really takes me out of my design comfort zone. It can be overwhelming to build mentally so as I worked I took each layer down just a notch to keep all of them together from being overwhelming to me.

 EZ Design Ideas:

  • Elegant Eggplant, Lucky Limeade, and Pumpkin Pie...strong colors indeed, all three! One way to balance these colors is with porportion. Give the most nuetral color the largest visual space. Two thirds Lucky Limeade to one third Elegant Eggplant and then the same porportion ratio between Elegant Eggplant and Pumpkin Pie

  • Keep the patterns small or neutral. I purposely chose a quiet Elegant Eggplant pattern paper with just a hint of a contrasting pattern in Pumpkin Pie. I toned down the background by choosing a tone-on-tone stamp rather than a patterned paper
  • Use texture rather than pattern to add additional visual interest without overpowering the eye...some paper piercing and a bit of embossing do the trick nicely!

I hope you have enjoyed my little mummy and please check back tomorrow to see his 3-D companion!

Hocus Pocus - Freshly Made Sketches #48

Follow Me on Pinterest

This week's sketch is by Tui Nathan and is definitely a winner!

My creation for this sketch started in my mind with a pretty, delicate, Lucky Limeade DSP with a flower center...apparently the card had other ideas!! I'm okay with this because I just loved how it turned out!

This card uses a pattern paper from the "Howlstooth and Scaringbone" Designer Paper Series. I mean, really, with a name like that, it just has to be great paper, right?? I just love it, it reminds me of witchy-poo stockings and I carried that theme on with the 1/2" Striped Satin Ribbon, both from the Holiday Catalog. Both of these reminded me of one of my favorite VERY bad witch Winifred Sanderson from the movie Hocus Pocus!

I ventured into the realm of embossing with this card. The stamped image "Frightening Feline" (Binks from the movie Hocus Pocus) was stamped with Versamark Ink. I then poured a bit of black embossing powder followed by some dazzling diamonds and then heated the image with my embossing tool until the powder set up. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get the glitter to come across on camera, but it is unexpectedly sparkly in person!

I used bright glimmer brads on the right side of the image to offset the weight of the patterned paper on the left...design note: feel free to improvise with your colors! I did not have a glimmer brad in Tangerine Tango so I substituted for one in Pumpkin Pie but because the colors are separated, the difference is indistinguishable!

I hope you enjoyed my early foray in Halloween and feel free to leave me a comment so I know you stopped by! Happy Stamping!

Stampin Supplies:
